It has been a long day for me today on the first day of my challenge. As usual, I woke up early and purchased the vocalization CD online and download it. I left my apartment at 9am heading towards BDC to take jazz class with Sue Samuels from 10:30am until 12:00noon. She is so dear to me and tries her best to give her attention to everyone in class. I like it when she corrects what I do and she gives me both positive feedback and the things that I need to work on. She also has a good sense of humor when she's teaching. The best thing I like on the way she teaches is that she really breaks down each step to make sure everyone in class get's it. So, when we do the whole combination it is properly executed.
Immediately after taking dance class, I took some photos with Sue and informed her about the challenge. She was happy to have my pictures taken with her and we did a jazz pose. On the next 15 minutes I was at Ripley-Grier Studio. I haven't eaten lunch then and just grabbed a bottle of water. I practiced for 30 minutes and booked the studio from 12:30-1:00pm. After that I received a text from a fellow BDC student as we were supposed to have lunch together. Unfortunately, she wasn't able to join me for lunch but she stayed with me while I was having lunch in a Chinese restaurant at 95th St. and Broadway just across Symphony Space Theater. I was starving by the time I get there. I had chicken with Broccoli and rice. And a corn soup with plain water as my drink. I know I didn't have a fruit with me but that filled my tummy. I only ate the half portion of what I ordered.
At 2:15pm, we went inside the theater to check in for the dress tech rehearsal for our Student Showcase. It was my first time to see the theater and I was impressed with it's interior. It is not so big and not so small. Just the right size. I started dressing up and fixing my hair to prepare for my first showcase run. Everyone in our group looked great. The ladies were pretty with their dresses and the men looked so handsome. Since we were the first one to run our number, we had plenty of time on stage to do the marking. Sadly, we only had one chance to run the whole showcase. Jim Cooney, our choreographer for that piece was satisfied though only with some notes which we can clean up for our last rehearsal on Friday night. It was followed by my 2nd second showcase piece from Bye,Bye, Birdie then the 3rd one singing "Because" from Across The Universe under Kurt Robinson's guidance.
It was inspiring to watch other performers. You can really see that everyone put all their efforts to come up with such beautiful work. The lights, the costumes, and the people are just amazing to watch! I guess I must end here for now. It's getting late and I still have to upload my pictures from today's activity. Goodbye for now and see you all tomorrow :)
